The flipside to this is that Insta360 does seem to be focusing development on the One R. But if I were buying today, and I had no thought of any features other than 360 photos, I would choose the One X. I still like the 3D functionality, so I'm torn as to whether or not I should have bought the One X. It looks to me like the One R and Evo have something in common: They sacrifice some 360 functionality and case compatibility to gain some other (admittedly cool) functions. If it had a user-friendly case, like the One X, I would have scratched the case instead of the lens. And I did damage it by leaving it out of it's case in 360 mode while running around taking a bunch of photos. I found a waterproof box I could use to carry the Evo, but it has to be in stereo mode, and the camera can't be used inside the case, and, as a result, I end up not having easy access to the camera when I want it, or the camera is ready to shoot, but easily damaged. The One X has a couple of case options that, even if I had no intention of shooting in wet conditions, would provide a layer of protection. I feel like the One R is going to have that same issue.Īlso I can't protect the camera as well as I'd like. I still like that aspect, but in practice I get far more out of its 360 capabilities, and its 360 capabilities are slightly compromised by the thickness of the camera. I like the Evo, and I like the idea of taking 3D photos, but in reality, to take advantage of the 3D photos, you need extra gear. I have neither, but I made a similar decision when I bought the Evo last year, and I'm not sure I made right choice.
